Since Henry Hudson sailed up his namesake River, there have been visitors in the gorgeous Hudson River Valley for over 400 years. In the 1800s travelers re-discovered  the area, a grand world of natural beauty, away from the crowds of big cities.

The vistas and site, inspired the first School of American painting, The Hudson River School of Painting to settle in the area during nineteenth century. “The recollection of the mountains is as fresh as vivid as the day I last saw them”, wrote Frederick Church, one of the greatest American painters. Castle Olana was his residence and now it’s a major attraction in the area. Every season is great to visit The Kaaterskill because there are so many things to do.
